FAQs For New Parents
Q: Why join Cub Scouts?
A: Obviously, we’re biased about the fun and learning our kids have in the program.
Q: When can I join Cub Scouting?
A: Anytime!! Our Cub Scout program runs at the same time as the school year. Our Dens generally meet Sept – May to work on Advancement and program. During the summer, We have activities and attend summer camp!
If you join in May or June, you’ll be able to be a part of our monthly summer activities and can still register for Summer Camp!
Scouts can work on their advancement at home with the parents/guardians if they missed a meeting at the beginning or even throughout the year
Q: My child has another activity (baseball, soccer, football, ninja camp, etc.) that conflicts with the Pack and Den meetings for 3 months. Can he/she still join?
A. You Bet! The best part about Scouting is that it goes at your pace. Your scout may need to work with you to cover the topics that were missed on those months, but all of program can be done at home.
Q: What do Cub Scouts do?
Lots! Cub Scouts spend a lot of time having fun, playing games, learning about the world, our environment, and themselves, being a part of a team, camping, fishing, and growing skills for life.
Q: What are Dens? And what is a Pack?
A: We organize into different Dens based on your son or daughter’s grade in school. All dens together form the pack. Learn more about how Cub Scouts are organized on this page.
Q: How much does it cost to be in Cub Scouts?
A: Scouting is an incredible value. The monthly pack and den programs, your Scout’s advancement awards, Scout Neckerchief and slide, your Pinewood Derby Car, and the two Pack campouts.
Additional costs are the uniform and handout, summer camp and other council camps (if you choose to go) and additional programs offered. We discuss this upon meeting with the youth(s) and parents.
Financial assistance is available — No Scout is turned away for financial reasons.
Q: How are Parents involved in Cub Scouts?
A: Cub Scouts really is a program that involves the whole family! We look to our Parents to be active with their Scout and attend the Pack and Den meetings.
In addition, since our Pack is 100% volunteer run, we encourage every parent help-out the pack in one or more ways – from being a den leader to helping set-up and take down at events, all parents need to do their part for a fun, successful Pack.
